About

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in Nutrition, and while I’ve been concerned with whether quinoa is a better source of protein than lentils, a huge slice of the population is worried about where their next meal is coming from.

While my education and experiences have served me well for my nutritional health, I realize my journey has been somewhat self-centered and absent of any positive effect on those in the world less fortunate than I am.

Here in the United States, 1 in 8 people are food insecure. Of the 40 million Americans concerned about where their next meal will come from, 12 million are children that lack access to enough food for an active and healthy lifestyle. In addition, millions more are deficient in proper nutrition due to either a shortage of nutritional information or access to healthy food choices.

Food insecurity is exponentially worse when you look at it worldwide. Globally, over 800 million people are living in a state where they do not have access to sufficient food sources. It is estimated that over 1 billion people go to bed hungry each night. The lack of adequate food accounts for more than 25,000 deaths per day, or more than 9 million deaths per year. Hunger is the number one cause of death worldwide.

Instead of wasting time wondering if the kale I’m eating is organically sourced, I’ve decided to focus my attention on raising people’s awareness on the problems of hunger both here in the U.S. as well as abroad.

As an advocate for proper nutrition and positive food relationships, I envision a world where everyone has the ability to fuel and nourish themselves through food. In my efforts to change this narrative, I created Hoops Fighting Hunger in 2021.

With every hoop earring sale, 4 nutritious meals are provided to a family that doesn’t know where the next meal will come from.

Hoops Fighting Hunger has pledged to provide 100,000 meals to individuals living food insecure, and need your help to make this a reality. To date, we have donated over 60,000 meals.

Through generous donations made to worthwhile charities such as Feeding AmericaThe Hunger Project, and Food for the Hungry, as well as every product you purchase, a family will be provided with four nutritious life-saving meals.
